My Top 5 Tips For Gorgeous Looking Skin In Winter

Winter skincare takes little more effort. Keeping your skin looking hydrated, glowing and alive in winter is a bit of a chore. In the cooler months our skin gets drier and paler.

Here are my tips to help your skin come back to life during winter, keeping it hydrated, glowing and youthful.

Keep hydrated

Keeping your skin hydrated is important not just from the outside but from the inside.

By drinking enough water regularly, our skin becomes more hydrated. So keeping the fluids up during the cooler months will help your skin appear more hydrated and less dry.

Coconut water is also another great way to hydrate yourself and keeping your skin from looking dull and dry. Coconut water contains natural electrolytes – potassium, calcium and magnesium which play an important role in hydration and regulate pH levels in the body.

Applying a serum after cleansing but before moisturising is an important step not to miss.

I use a few different ones from The Ordinary as I find they work, and are affordable. Certain serums contain active ingredients that help with the skin depending on your skin concerns.

I alternate between The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid serum and Matrixyl 10% with Hyaluronic acid. Since using these, I have found that my skin feels so much more moisturised and helps with strengthening the skin barrier and reducing fine lines.

I cannot live without moisturising my skin.

Moisturising thoroughly day and night is very important in keeping your skin hydrated and looking youthful especially in the cooler months. Investing in a good facial moisturiser with clean ingredients is a great way to achieve youthful and glowing skin. I use CeraVe Daily Moisturising Lotion.

I’ve only been wearing sunscreen everyday for the past year. The sun has been proven to contribute to getting more wrinkles and other signs of ageing.

I prefer mineral sunscreens over chemical sunscreens. Even in winter we get gorgeous sunny days and even on cloudy days our skin can still be exposed to the suns UV rays, so it’s important to keep this step going in your skincare routine.

Applying a clean mineral sunscreen daily to your face and neck in winter will overall reduce signs of ageing in the long run.

No Makeup days

On those cold or rainy days when it’s one of those quiet days and you’re cooped up at home in your cozy loungewear, it is the perfect time to have a no makeup day. I find having a no makeup day every now and again just lets my skin breathe.

Not only will having no makeup days make your skin look brighter and healthier, but it will increase your confidence in yourself by having no makeup on. These types of days are a fantastic opportunity to allow your skin to breathe and have a rest from makeup.

I hope these tips help your skin during these cooler months.
